Solving Chronic Pump Leaks and Water Contamination
Semi-Conductor Equipment Manufacturer
Problem:
An OEM manufacturer was experiencing chronic chiller failures, primarily in the pumping system. Their equipment was installed in clean rooms with the chiller located 30’ below in a sub-fab with the application requiring precision temperature control of +/-0.05°C and exceptionally low flow rates that must be pumped against a significant head pressure.
The OEM determined that an unidentified contaminant was getting into the water stream, ultimately clogging the system and destroying the water pumps. After working with three other chiller suppliers to find a solution, the customer approached Haskris.
Solution:
Working in partnership with the OEM, Haskris conducted extensive testing on the equipment to reproduce the problem. We identified the contaminant substance and tracked the source. Haskris then developed a solution that included special materials of construction, specialized flow controls and a customized mechanical water treatment package to control the water chemistry.
We also designed the solution to fit the exact size of the existing supplier’s cabinet for seamless field retrofits. Our chiller design included universal electrical characteristics so that one chiller configuration could be used in both 50Hz and 60Hz countries.
Customer Cost Savings:
- Improved Reliability. The Haskris design eliminated waste and cost from…
- Production line down time
- Chiller service/repair charges
- Administrative resources associated with unplanned downtime events
- Reputational costs with their end user customers
- Easy Retrofit of New Design. The Haskris chiller design was a drop-in replacement for their current supplier, ensuring a seamless transition and eliminating field retrofit costs.
- Simplified Logistics. The simplified and efficient logistics of the universal 50/60Hz design streamlined the customer’s order process with one part number, less administrative work and less inventory.
