Achieving Reliability and Stability in a Harsh Environment

Problem:
Ten years and three chiller suppliers later, an OEM was still experiencing continual chiller failures. Each failure stopped the production line, resulting in heavy productivity, efficiency and revenue losses. The customer needed – but couldn’t find – a chiller design that could withstand:
- Extreme, harsh environmental factors: Standard chillers couldn’t last for more than 6 months in the presence of heavy airborne dust and ambient air temperatures ranging from 20°F to 120°F.
- Precise temperature control requirements: Process water was unavailable at the customer site, so only air cooled chillers could be used. Yet the OEM equipment required precision water temperature control of +/-0.1°C.
Solution:
Haskris innovated a custom refrigeration system to enable the chiller to operate at normal pressures and temperatures in the harsh environment, eliminating the customer’s reliability problem.
To ensure stability, we designed a proprietary temperature control system to provide +/-0.1°C stability, despite the extreme variance in external conditions.
